Fiat 500 van het Jaar” verkiezing en bestaat uit 58 gespecialiseerde journalisten uit 22 Europese landen, heeft de Fiat 500 gekozen tot Auto van het Jaar 2008
De Fiat 500 kreeg van de Europese jury de meeste punten, ruim voor de Mazda 2.
De overwinning van de 500 is er eentje zonder discussie. Maar liefst 33 juryleden plaatsten de Fiat op de eerste plaats van hun keuzelijstje, terwijl nog eens 15 personen hem als tweede lieten eindigen. Het enorm leuke uiterlijk van de nieuwe 500 en het eveneens origineel vormgegeven interieur zijn de belangrijkste beweegredenen voor de jury geweest om de Fiat tot Auto van het Jaar te kronen. Die feiten, gekoppeld aan een relatief laag prijsniveau (vanaf 11.500 euro) en het feit dat er ook nog een sportieve Abarth-uitvoering en een Giardiniera-combiversie komen, hebben het overgrote deel van de jury ervan overtuigd dat er dit jaar maar één echte winnaar kon zijn.
